The Louisville football team just took down the Miami Hurricanes in a Friday night ACC clash. The Cardinals' defense put on a dominant performance and limited Miami's offense to just 334 total yards, which is their lowest this season.
Entering this game, Carson Beck and this Miami offense were the talk of the nation. Beck was one of the frontrunners to win the Heisman trophy as he was guiding Miami to an undefeated season so far, including three wins over ranked teams.
Welp, Beck's Heisman campaign was short-lived, as Ron English and this dominant Cardinals defense just sent a message to the country that this Cardinals unit is the real deal.
Louisville football just ended Carson Beck's Heisman campaign
The game plan for Louisville, and specifically the defense, was to put pressure on Beck and to make him play like his 2024 self. In 2024, he threw for 12 interceptions, which was twice as many as in 2023. Entering this game, the Georgia transfer threw three interceptions, including two against USF.
The Cardinals were able to generate a lot of pressure on Beck, causing their plan to work to perfection as he threw four interceptions, which marks a new career high. The Cardinals' defense was flying all over the place and causing havoc on Beck. And as Louisville fans loved every second of it, Beck and anyone who placed bets that he would win the Heisman were living a nightmare.
Beck was the favorite to win the Heisman with +350 odds, but after his awful performance against this Cardinals team, his odds dropped to +2500, pretty much eliminating him from the conversation.

The Cardinals were able to secure two interceptions in each half, including former 5-star TJ Capers' game-sealing interception in the fourth quarter with under a minute to go. The Cardinals' defense has flown under the radar all year long, but after they essentially ended Beck's Heisman campaign, this unit will get the respect that it deserves.
Alabama's Ty Simpson is now the slight favorite to win the Heisman entering Saturday, with Indiana's Fernando Mendoza right behind him.
