Louisville football is 2-3 entering Week 6, after the Cardinals suffered another 3-point loss, falling to North Carolina State 31-28 on Saturday. The Cardinals have lost two straight, and in all three losses, Jeff Brohm and his Cardinals have lost by just one field goal, 3 points.

Louisville’s costly mistakes just drew a blunt message from Jeff Brohm

Last week, the Cardinals had a lot of trouble holding on to the ball, as Louisville fumbled it five times, including three that NC State recovered. Now, they must quickly move on to the next opponent as Louisville has a short week, as the Cardinals will face Florida State at home on Friday night, October 9.

With the Cardinals at 2-3, this is a crucial game: Brohm needs to keep his locker room, and Louisville needs to find a way to win and start a run for the rest of the season. With the game just a few days away, let’s break down some early odds and predictions for the Cardinals-Florida State matchup.

Louisville vs Florida State odds

As of Monday, October 5th, the Cardinals are a 5.5-point favorite over the Seminoles in the Friday night ACC showdown. Right now, the over/under is 58.5, with the moneyline set at Louisville at -210 to win on Friday and Florida State at+172. After the Cardinals' recent skid, ESPN Analytics now gives Louisville a 53.2 percent chance of winning, while Florida State has a 46.8 percent chance of pulling off the win over the Cardinals on Friday.

Big Red Louie Predictions

While Louisville is on a mini skid after dropping two games, Florida State is trending in the opposite direction, having won two straight, including a dominant 38-7 win over Virginia this past weekend. If Louisville wants to beat Virginia, they just saw the Cardinals must find a way to slow quarterback Ashton Daniels down.

The Seminoles quarterback went 12-of-19 in the air for 183 passing yards, while he also led FSU in rushing with 17 carries for 136 yards and five rushing touchdowns. Louisville has experience this season guarding dual-threat quarterbacks like Kevin Jennings and Trinidad Chambliss, and now, if they want to snap this two-game losing streak, they must limit Daniels' legs and force him to throw the ball.

With this being a home game, and with all the pressure on Jeff Brohm, we are leaning Louisville. The Cardinals saw Isaac Brown break through last game, rushing for 100+ yards for the first time this season, and with Louisville looking to avoid a 2-4 start, we still have faith that the Cardinals can turn this around.

Prediction: Louisville 34 Florida State 30
