Pat Kelsey has made it clear he is looking to hit multiple home runs in the 2027 recruiting class, as the Cardinals head coach has positioned Louisville in a great spot for multiple 5-stars. The Cardinals are making a strong push in this class, with some of the nation’s top recruits, including the No. 1 overall prospect CJ Rosser and No. 2 overall prospect DeMarcus Henry.

Another recruit Kelsey targeted and pushed for was 5-star recruit Asa Montgomery. The elite small forward is one of the nation's top forwards, and Louisville was making serious noise with the Georgia native.
However, Louisville may no longer be one of the top teams in the mix in Montgomery’s recruiting process, as the 5-star prospect just gave a crushing update to Louisville and Kelsey.
5-star Asa Montgomery cancels upcoming Louisville visit
On Thursday, On3 Sports Joe Tipton reported that Montgomery canceled two upcoming visits, including one to Louisville and one to Arizona.

The 6-foot-7, 200-pound small forward is one of the nation's top prospects, ranked top 10 overall by On3 Sports, Rivals, and ESPN. Montgomery ranks as high as No. 3 overall by Rivals, No. 8 in the nation by ESPN, and No. 10 overall by On3 Sports.
Louisville learned they earned an official visit from the 5-star forward earlier this summer when he scheduled eight official visits. Other teams that earned a visit included LSU, Florida, UConn, Providence, North Carolina, Duke, and Arizona. However, after this recent update, Montgomery appears to be looking less at Louisville and Arizona and prioritizing the other six.
As of now, Rivals Prediction Meter has the Duke Blue Devils as the dominant favorite, giving Jon Scheyer a 78.2 percent chance of landing the 5-star small forward. Montgomery ranks as high as No. 2 among small forwards, behind only one of the 'Cardinals' top targets, DeMarcus Henry.
The 6-foot-7 forward is an elite scorer who has represented Team USA internationally, winning a gold medal at the U17 World Cup. He also averaged 24.1 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game in the EYCL.
Hearing that Montgomery is canceling his upcoming visit with Louisville hurts, but given how much attention Kelsey is giving Henry, it’s not a major surprise. Right now, UofL is trending in the right direction, as Joe Tipton and Rivlas see the Cardinals as one of the top two teams in the mix with the No. 2 overall recruit.
The Cardinals landed an official visit from Henry and traveled to the 5-star in September, and recently, Kelsey praised Henry for what sets him apart. Now, with Montgomery out, the Cards' No. 1 small-forward recruit is clear, and the pressure is on to make a big splash.
