Louisville basketball is making a huge push in the 2027 recruiting class, and the Cardinals fans are just 24 hours away from learning if they will land their first 5-star this year. Cardinals fans are keeping a close eye on multiple recruits, but one who has drawn a lot of attention from Pat Kelsey is Reese Alston.
UNC using Michael Jordan to land DeMarcus Henry may be impossible for Pat Kelsey to match
The 5-star point guard has been one of Kelsey’s top targets all offseason and in the 2027 recruiting class, and he just announced his commitment date.
Reese Alston's commitment date is set
Louisville fans will have a busy week, as the Cardinals will play their final exhibition game tonight, DeMarcus Henry will announce his decision on October 30, and now Alston will also announce on Thursday, October 29, at 4 p.m. local time.
Alston is a unanimous 5-star point guard who originally cut his list to just seven schools after earning over 33 offers. Now, he's cut his list further as he nears his decision, down to five, putting Louisville in a battle with Wichita State, Tennessee, LSU, and Kentucky.

The Cardinals have prioritized Alston all year, hosting him for an official visit, visiting him multiple times this summer at recruiting camps, and Kelsey visiting Alston in September after his trip to LSU.
Louisville has been considered a frontrunner for most of the recruiting process, landing multiple predictions, but LSU and Kentucky recently emerged as major threats. Now, with just one day left before his decision, LSU appears to be the new favorite to land the 5-star, as multiple recruiting outlets, including Rivals, predict that Will Wade and the Tigers will land their second 5-star guard.
The Houston native is an elite scorer who averaged 22.2 points, 5.3 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.7 steals per game, earning MaxPreps Junior All-American First Team honors. Alston ranks as high as No. 9 overall and No. 3 among point guards.
The Cardinals have landed a 5-star in consecutive recruiting classes, and now Kelsey will look to have a monster week as they are in the running for two top-10 recruits. Louisville fans will be watching Thursday afternoon to see if Kelsey lands his third 5-star and second 5-star point guard since arriving at UofL.
It is an exciting week for Louisville basketball, and hopefully it gets even better with a couple of 5-star commitments.
