Louisville football lost a crucial commit after the star offensive linemen recently visited the Cardinals' ACC rival, the Miami Hurricanes.

The Cardinals' class of 2026 has been firing on all cylinders, but Jeff Brohm and his staff just received their first decommitment. Offensive tackle Joel Ervin announced Monday that he will decommit from Louisville and will now be back in the recruiting field.

Ervin visited Louisville earlier this month and, just a week later, verbally committed to the Cardinals. That, unfortunately, only lasted 16 days as the offensive tackle from Fort Myers recently visited the University of Miami and has a visit with the Florida Gators lined up.

It was a surprise when Ervin chose Louisville as On3 gave Miami a 44 percent chance of landing him and Florida a 38 percent chance. The Cardinals were only given an eight percent chance. The 6-foot-6, 280-pound lineman has the potential to be a beast in college football, as his perfect build was a glaring reason elite programs reached out to him. Ervin received offers from other programs like Georgia, USC, and Auburn.

Ervin took to X to announce his official decommitment from Louisville and asked all fans to respect his decision.

Ervin is a 3-star prospect out of Fort Myers High School and is ranked No. 642 nationally by On3. He is ranked No. 59 in the offensive tackle position and No. 94 in the state of Florida. 247Sports sees the most out of him as they rank him as No. 54 in his position and the No. 74 player out of Florida.

Louisville football is ranked No. 8 in the nation for their now 11 commitments in the class of 2026. Stay updated with all Louisville football recruiting news and updates here.
