Something that has flown miles under the radar this offseason is Louisville football's quarterback race for the No. 2 spot. With Miller Moss getting all the hype, not many fans are talking about that battle between Deuce Adams and Brady Allen.
Jeff Brohm has gone to the Transfer Portal for his starting quarterback in all three of his seasons since arriving at Louisville, but the backup position is essential for a successful college football season and the Cardinals' future. Adams and Allen have been battling it out all offseason, and both have earned reps with the first team, but with the season just a couple of weeks away, Brohm has a decision looming.

Louisville football's QB2 job is still up for grabs as fall camp winds down
After a disappointing spring camp, Adams has positioned himself to make a move back into that No. 2 spot. The 6-foot-2 190-pound quarterback has shown flashes of hope with his ability to escape and run, and how strong an arm he has. However, while he might have a strong arm, he still lacks accuracy at times, making it hard to give him the No. 2 spot.
As for Allen, the 6-foot-6, 220-pound quarterback looked to carry the momentum from his strong outing this past spring. During the Spring Game, Allen completed 71.4 percent of his 14 passes and threw for 124 passing yards. However, during the first scrimmage, Brohm made it clear these two are still battling it out and he isn't really impressed by either as fall camp winds down.
Brohm stated they are improving throughout the camp, but a lot of work still has to be done. He wasn't quite pleased with their performance on Saturday as they were inconsistent, making it appear that the quarterback depth is a growing concern.
"I don't think today was one of our better days for the backup position with the quarterbacks. We weren't as consistent," Brohm stated, but also added that it is to be expected as of now for the backups, and it isn't always the quarterback's fault.
Brohm ended the QB2 competition conversation by stating that both quarterbacks have made progress this fall, but they still have a lot of work to do. This competition is something worth keeping an eye on in today's second scrimmage and the team's final scrimmage on Saturday.
Louisville will kick off from L&N Stadium against Eastern Kentucky on August 30, and if all goes to plan, the Cardinals' No.2 quarterback should make an appearance in that game. But for now, Brohm and these two quarterbacks are reminding us that they are inexperienced and need more reps entering the 2025 season.
