Louisville football got massive recruiting news late last night as the Cardinals' top commitment, Lekhy Thompkins, shut down his recruiting process. The IMG Academy star has been heavily recruited by big-time programs lately, including Miami and Colorado, but Hayes Fawcett reported last night and Thompkins confirmed that he is officially a Louisville Cardinal.

Thompkins has emerged as one of Jeff Brohm's biggest hidden gems as the 3-star running back transferred to the prestigious IMG Academy for his senior season and has now taken the nation by storm after his dominant season. The Louisville commit has rushed for 1108 rushing yards and is averaging 8.1 yards per carry, while securing nine rushing touchdowns.

Miami and Colorado were consistently recruiting the running back this fall, but his message to the Cards fans confirms he is all-in on Louisville.

Louisville commit Lekhy Thompkins sends strong message to Cards fans

Earlier this year, Louisville struck out on one of Kentucky's top recruits, Evan Hampton, after the 4-star running back transferred from Louisville to Vanderbilt. The elite running back initially committed to the Cardinals but decided to flip his commitment to Vandy, making it crucial for Brohm and Vince Marrow to keep Thompkins.

Louisville fans have been concerned about his recruiting process and whether he was planning to flip to Miami or Colorado, but after his strong message to the fans, Cardinals fans cannot wait to see him in red and black next season.

Card fans are fired up after this message and recruiting update, as they recognize the significance of keeping him as a Cardinal. Louisville's 2026 recruiting class ranks inside the top 30, as 247Sports ranks its 23 commitments No. 30 in the nation. Keeping Thompkins is a massive boost to this class, as he is officially one of Louisville's top commitments in the 2026 recruiting class.
