Louisville football just secured a massive win over SMU, earning its second win of the season with a 41-31 victory over the Mustangs. The 'Cards' win over SMU marks the program's first victory over the Mustangs, and it came at the perfect time.
The Cardinals and the Mustangs played a thrilling top-25 matchup, a back-and-forth showdown where the Cardinals won after a breakout second half. Louisville scored 27 points in the second half, including three huge touchdowns from their two star running backs.
Isaac Brown had another slow game for the Cardinals, but the preseason All-American had his first touchdown of the season at the perfect time.

Brown entered the season with a lot of preseason hype. He ranked as high as the 35th-best player in college football, according to ESPN, was a preseason All-American, and came off a year in which he played only eight games but led FBS in yards per carry with a dominant 8.8 yards.
However, it hasn’t gone his way to start in 2026. Brown had 29 carries in the first two games for just 67 yards, averaging 3.3 yards per carry. He then got off to another slow start against SMU, with eight carries for 37 yards and under six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
But then the Isaac Brown breakout run finally happened, and it was at the perfect time. He found the edge and the end zone for his tenth carry of the game, a 21-yard touchdown.

Brown finished the game with 10 carries for 67 yards, taking a huge step in the right direction. Hopefully this was the first domino to fall his way, and now he can build on it and regain that confidence.
