Louisville basketball fans saw the Cardinals' fifth player enter the Transfer Portal late Wednesday evening. It was announced that former USF transfer Kasean Pryor will enter the transfer portal again and seek a 7th year of eligibility.

Louisville basketball's big enters the portal seeking 7th year of eligibility

The 6-foot-10 power forward will look to play for his fifth team in seven years, starting at Boise State, then at a junior college, Northwest Florida State, and then at USF and Louisville. Now, the 6-year senior will seek one more year of eligibility, and, given his case, he will likely be granted that seventh year.

Pryor spent his first two seasons with Boise State, where the power forward played in just 13 games and averaged five minutes or less in both seasons. The Boise State commitment out of high school decided to exit and try to prove himself, and transferred to Northwest Florida State Junior College.

Now, because Pryor went that route, once he committed to USF, he was eligible for an extra year, since the NCAA gives an extra year to players who play at Junior College. So, when he transferred to Louisville, he had two years of eligibility remaining, but in his first season with the Cardinals, he played only six games, making it reasonable for the NCAA to now grant him a seventh year.

Pryor will have to submit a medical hardship waiver, but, as stated above, because he missed nearly the entire 2024-25 season, it seems likely the NCAA will grant him that extra year. So, now with Pryor in the portal, the power forward will look for his fifth team at the collegiate level.

Pryor was expected to be a key piece for Louisville as he transferred to the Cardinals as one of their biggest offseason additions in the 2024 offseason. He was making an immediate impact with Louisville, averaging 12.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.1 blocks, and 1.6 steals in those six games, but he tore his ACL against Oklahoma, missed the rest of the season, and just never got back to that level this past season.

He played in just 23 games this past season with multiple DNP’s, and he averaged just 6.5 minutes per game. Pryor is ranked as a 3-star transfer, No. 283 overall and No. 59 among power forwards. It will be interesting to see where Pryor ends up, and, as crazy as it sounds to hear a college basketball player eligible for a seventh year, with the NCAA rules, it seems highly likely he will be granted one last season.
