Louisville football just secured its second straight win after the Cardinals defeated Syracuse 34-26. Louisville improves to 4-3 on the year and 3-2 in conference play, led largely by star quarterback Lincoln Kienholz.
2 Louisville players exceeding expectations and 2 who need a better second half
The Cardinals have had highs and lows this season, but Kienholz has remained someone this program and fan base can rely on. The Ohio State transfer is a gritty quarterback who can not only beat the opposing teams with his arm, but can also beat them with his legs.
In Louisville’s win, the 4-star transfer made Louisville history again when Kienholz broke free for a huge run. A run that etched his name in Louisville’s record books.
Lincoln Kienholz just made Louisville football history...again
Kienholz has made a strong impression in his first year as a college starter, putting his name in Louisville record books for multiple categories. First he etched his name into UofL’s record books when he threw for 300 yards or more in his first career start; then he was the first Cardinal to throw for 275 yards, rush for two touchdowns, and pass for two touchdowns in a half since Lamar Jackson, and now he has the longest rushing touchdown by a Cardinal quarterback.
In yesterday’s win, Louisville trailed 10-7 late in the first, and Brohm called a QB run to the right side, leading to history. Kienholz cut to the sideline, then made a defensive back miss, and it was all green from there. He went on to rush for an 82-yard touchdown, making history.
Lincoln Kienholz’ 82-yard rushing touchdown is the longest by a quarterback in school history, surpassing the previous record of 75 yards by Malik Cunningham vs. Kentucky on Nov. 24, 2018.

Kienholz finished with 310 passing yards and one passing touchdown, plus two rushing touchdowns. If Louisville wants to carry this run late in the season and have a chance to make the ACC Championship Game, Kienholz has to keep doing it with both his legs and his arm.
The dual-threat QB has turned heads nationwide all season, and while he threw a couple of interceptions yesterday, UofL needs him to keep running like an elite runner and remain a major threat with his arm.
The Cards have a very favorable schedule the rest of the way, and look like they may be turning the page and ready to make a run. The Cards sit in sixth place right now and are just two games behind Wake Forest with five weeks remaining. Yesterday, college football fans saw chaos; now we just need it in the ACC.
