Louisville basketball fans learned just now that one of the top transfers in the portal, Miles Byrd, officially committed to Providence. The Cards were named as one of the seven finalists for Byrd, but the 4-star transfer ultimately committed to the Friars over Louisville, Baylor, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Providence, Texas, and Vanderbilt.

It became clear the Cardinals were likely not going to earn Byrd’s commitment today, as it was reported Providence was the heavy favorite. However, Byrd was a perfect target for those fans who wanted a dominant defender, as the San Diego State transfer averaged 1.9 steals and 1.2 blocks per game this past season and  2.1 steals and 1.1 blocks per game in the 2024-25 season.
However, despite Louisville not landing Byrd, the Cardinals are in a good position with a handful of players. Louisville is trending with a few players, as they will host three transfers for visits, and it has been reported that the Cards are an early team to watch for a couple of other transfers as well.
