Louisville football continues to make a strong push in the Transfer Portal, landing two more commitments Monday afternoon. Louisville added former 4-star running back and Missouri transfer Marquise Davis, and early in the evening, they added Miami transfer Daylen Russell.

The Cardinals have now earned four commitments from the Transfer Portal, while losing 27 players to it. Louisville still has a lot of work to do, but Jeff Brohm and Vince Marrow have shown no sign of slowing down as the Cardinals continue to reach out and contact big-time players in key position groups.

One position the Cards have to recruit heavily for the second straight season is defensive back. Louisville will lose key players in D’Angelo Hutchinson and Jabari Mack, and lost Corey Gordon Jr. to the portal. The Cardinals will look to try to bring back multiple starters from a year ago, and it is reported that Brohm is trending in the right direction with Old Dominion transfer Jerome Carter III.

With the Cardinals needing depth in the defensive backs room, Brohm is targeting an under-the-radar gem. Brohm has been able to attack the portal and find some solid transfers who have flown under everyone else's radar and turned out to be key players for him the next season. Louisville earned multiple defensive back commitments from FCS and lower Division I transfers last year, and the Cardinals' defense exceeded all expectations.

Now, Brohm will try to find that hidden gem once again in Carter. The Old Dominion transfer ranks No. 447 in the Transfer Portal and is ranked as the No. 35 best safety. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound safety is coming off a career season after logging the second most tackles on the Monarchs' defense with 76 total tackles, a team high six interceptions, and two pass deflections.

Carter earned double-digit tackles in three games last season and earned an interception in five of their 13 games, including two in their bowl win over USF. Louisville is now one of four teams that “stand out” to Carter as the Cardinals are in a recruiting battle with ACC foes the Clemson Tigers and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, as well as Mississippi State.

Carter would be a big-time get for Brohm and this defense, as the sophomore safety would be a key piece for multiple years and make an immediate impact.
