Louisville basketball's head coach recently made a bold claim that went viral, and while the Cardinals fans are supporting him and having his back, the rest of the nation is completely outraged by it. Pat Kelsey appeared on The Field of 68 podcast and claimed that the Cardinals are 'PGU' in the modern era, but many fans seem to disagree.
And while fans argue who is 'PGU', 5-star freshman Mikel Brown Jr. is going viral for his own clip now, and that only helps prove Kelsey's claim. One of the glaring reasons why Kelsey made his claim was because he earned Brown's commitment, and on the same day Kelsey claimed Louisville is 'PGU', Brown showcased just how dominant he might be this upcoming season.

Mikel Brown Jr. helps make a case for Pat Kelsey's bold Louisville claim
The 5-star freshman was ranked as high as No. 6 in the nation and the No. 1 point guard in the 2025 recruiting class. He was the Cardinals' second-highest commitment in program history and skyrocketed this program into the elite level once again.
Now, whether Louisville is 'PGU' or not, that is for the fans to decide, but Brown splashing 25 straight 3-pointers is just his way of sending a message to the nation that the Cardinals are a top spot for elite point guards.

Whether fans want to admit it or not, the Cardinals are becoming one of the top spots for guards since Kelsey joined Louisville. Chucky Hepburn outperformed nearly every expectation, and now Kelsey has a 5-star in Brown who has proven multiple times this offseason that he isn't just poised for a breakout season, but he is poised to be an NBA lottery draft pick.
Now, Kelsey is saying this is most likely a massive pitch to Taylen Kinney and Deron Rippey Jr. in the 2026 recruiting class, but if the Cardinals can land one of those 5-stars in the 2026 class, then he has a strong case to claim PGU since he arrived at Louisville.
Brown splashing 25 3-pointers in a row, minutes after Kelsey claimed the Cardinals as 'PGU' was just too perfect. Kelsey knows how good this freshman is, and the nation only got a brief taste of it during his dominant U19 gold medal run in Switzerland when he led Team USA in points, assists, and efficiency.
Brown will look to dominate the 2025-26 season and prove that Kelsey's claim wasn't such a bold claim after all, and when March Madness comes around, the whole nation will be saying it as well.
