Last night, NBA fans got the game they wanted to see, which was former Louisville basketball star Mikel Brown Jr. vs former Arkansas star Darius Acuff Jr. Brown was selected No. 6 overall by the Brooklyn Nets, just one pick before Acuff, who went No. 7 overall to the Sacramento Kings.

Now, these two elite point guards went head-to-head last night, and the former Cardinal showcased why the Nets fans shouldn’t be upset about picking Brown over Acuff. Some local fans and local reporters ripped the Nets apart for not picking Acuff, but last night, despite Acuff scoring more than the former Cardinal, Brown showed why he has the potential to be an All-NBA guard.

Mikel Brown Jr. scores 16 in Nets dominant win

The Nets defeated the Kings 115-83, and the former Cardinal was a big reason why. Brown played in just 19 minutes in the Nets' dominant win, but in those 19 minutes, the No. 6 overall pick did a little bit of everything.

The former All-ACC point guard was a pest on defense while he continued to impress many fans with his offensive game. Brown scored 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field and 2-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc. On top of scoring, he secured five assists, two rebounds, two steals, and one block.

Brown was playing hard all game when he was on the floor and looked motivated when Acuff was guarding him. The former Cardinal had an impressive steal on Acuff in transition and then went right at the Arkansas guard on the other end, as Brown had a beautiful behind-the-back and then nailed a step back on Acuff.

Another impressive sequence from Brown was when he attacked Acuff in the third quarter. The former Cardinal had a nasty crossover, and then straight into a hesitation, and then faked a spin move and hit a fadeaway jumper, once again on Acuff. The former Cardinal played like he heard any criticism from fans who were upset they picked Brown over Acuff, and Brown was showing why he can be an elite guard in the NBA.

And finally, another notable play came when Brown crossed halfcourt and played at his pace, and he did two between the legs, one cross over another between the legs, and hit a 3-pointer well beyond the arc with Acuff’s hand in his face. Brown showcased his ability to play at his pace, impact the game on the offensive end with his playmaking and elite scoring, and display his defensive instincts.

Nets fans should be excited about their rookie, and last night's game showed them why the former Cardinals' ceiling is so high, as he was playing elite basketball against the No. 7 overall pick.
