This came as a pleasant surprise. The Louisville Cardinals did not really have to lift a finger in their massive in-state rivalry game vs. the Kentucky Wildcats. While Jeff Brohm's team had hit the skids of late, one would have thought they would have gotten UK's best punch, given that Mark Stoops' team was 5-6 and fighting for bowl eligibility. Instead, the Cardinals literally ran all over them in a 41-0 win.
Cardinals quarterback Miller Moss was surprised by how uninterested Kentucky seemed on defense.
"They essentially came out and dared us to run the ball. Like, they were playing drop-eight, three-cloud pretty much the entire first half. So my conversations with Brian and Jeff were 'We're going to have to run the ball a little bit.'"
Moss was still able to get his own on 10-of-20 passes for 182 yards, three touchdowns and no picks.

Moss did have a rushing touchdown himself, but Braxton Jennings and Shaun Boykins Jr. dominated.
"Obviously, we were short-staffed in that area, but I couldn't be more proud of those guys' ability. They started the year out on scout team ... but to put on that kind of performance, I'm just so proud of them. They are both awesome players that have unique strengths and bright futures ahead of them."
The fact Jennings and Boykins were fifth and sixth-stringers running all over Kentucky was amazing.
Louisville ran all over Kentucky, but will it knock Mark Stoops out of a job?
There is really no way around it. That was a pitiful performance out of Kentucky. There were Kentucky teams from yesteryear that would have put forth a far better effort than this lackluster one, especially with something as precious as bowl eligibility on the line. Louisville has long been out of the College Football Playoff picture, but comfortably in a bowl game. This just shows what Jeff Brohm is all about.
When you have the right head coach leading your team, whether he is at his alma mater or not, he makes everyone on his roster play hard whenever they get their opportunity. Saturday was a moment that Jennings and Boykins will remember for the rest of their lives. Jennings had 20 carries for 113 yards. Boykins had 22 carries for 101 yards and a rushing touchdown. To beat a bitter rival is special.
With the coaching carousel fully underway, Kentucky was not likely to punt on Stoops. However, his teams have become increasingly atrocious on offense. This team is not going to bowl games on the regular anymore. Perhaps Louisville did deliver the knockout punch to the longest-tenured head coach in the SEC? Regardless, Moss conducted Louisville's offense to perfection to own Kentucky.
This was coaching malpractice committed by Stoops and his staff, so Louisville took advantage.
