Louisville basketball is absolutely rolling right now as Pat Kelsey lands his second 5-star this offseason. Obinna Ekezie Jr. didn’t just announce his commitment to the Cardinals, he also revealed he will reclass to the 2026 recruiting class and will now be a key piece for Louisville’s National Title quest this upcoming season.

Ekezie marks as Kelsey’s first 2026 commitment, and he now will join an elite roster that is highlighted by a 5-star transfer commitment and No. 1 overall transfer from the Transfer Portal, Flory Bidunga. The Cardinals' frontcourt is all of a sudden a dominant group that is highlighted by these two centers, and Ekezie makes it clear he committed to Louisville because he wants to win a national championship.

Louisville fans are starving for a Final Four run, as the last time the Cardinals cut down some nets and made it to the Final Four was when they won the National Championship in 2013. Well, the 5-star commitment just gave Louisville fans an incredible quote that proves this team is ready to contend and to compete for their first National Title since 2013.

"I have chosen to commit to University of Louisville as I feel it's the best situation to develop, showcase my game and strive to win a national championship," stated Ekezie, according to 247 Sports Eric Bossi.

Ekezie marks the highest commitment in Louisville history. He is ranked as high as No. 2 in the 2027 recruiting class and No. 1 among centers. He has a composite rating of 0.9986, which is just higher than Samardo Samuels' 0.9985 when he committed to Louisville in 2008.

Now, the Cardinals' push for a National Title is officially on. Louisville has a dominant frontcourt in Bidunga, Ekezie, and Alvaro Folgueiras, and their backcourt is led by 4-star transfer Jackson Shelstad, former 5-star transfer Adrian Wooley, 4-star transfer De'Shayne Montgomery, and London Johnson.

The 5-star commitment is an elite two-way player with a 7-foot-4 wingspan and an elite rim protector. The 7-foot, 215-pound center averaged 17.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game while shooting 60.2 percent from the floor this past season.

Kelsey made it clear he understood the expectations and that the standard at Louisville isn’t a second-round exit, and the roster he is building right now is poised for a deep postseason run. Louisville hasn’t been to the National Championship game since 2013 and technically can’t claim a title since 1989, but the Cardinals are looking to change that this upcoming season.
