Louisville basketball emerges as serious National Title contenders
Entering Sunday, Louisville was the frontrunner for the 5-star as the Cardinals earned a Crystal Ball prediction from 247Sports. Ekezie received over 32 offers from powerhouse programs, but ultimately cut his list to five, with Louisville earning his commitment over Kentucky, BYU, Arkansas, and Maryland.
The 7-foot, 215-pound center committed to Louisville, ranked No. 2 in the 2027 recruiting class and No. 1 among centers. He was a unanimous 5-star in the 2027 recruiting class, with a 7-foot-4 wingspan and a dominant two-way player. The 17-year-old will turn 18 later this month, and he will now be part of a dominant frontcourt with Bidunga.
Louisville fans begged Kelsey to attack the frontcourt, and man, that's exactly what he did. He landed the No. 1 overall transfer and No. 1 center in the Transfer Portal, and now he's landed one of the top 2027 recruits who will join Louisville next season. Ekezie played in 31 games this past season and was dominant, averaging 17.1 points while shooting 60 percent from the field. He also averaged 7.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.
With him reclassing to the 2026 class, he is not yet ranked in the 2026 cycle, but he marks as Louisville’s first commitment in the class. The Cardinals are making a strong push to compete with Duke this upcoming season, having landed six transfer commitments and now an elite 2026 commitment.
