Louisville basketball is in the mix for one of the top-rated recruits in the 2027 recruiting class, Obinna Ekezie Jr. Recently, the 5-star cut his list down to five schools, where Louisville is in a heated recruiting battle with Arkansas, Maryland, BYU, and Kentucky.

The Cards just got a huge update that the 5-star recruit announcement is just hours away. Ekezie is reportedly planning to make his college announcement on his Instagram at 4:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 3.

The Cardinals are reportedly one of the frontrunners to land Ekezie, as they recently landed a Crystal Ball prediction from 247 Sports, and On3 Sports has them as the favorite with a 37 percent chance of earning his commitment. However, recently it has been reported that Maryland is the team Louisville fans have to fear, as the Terrapins are making a major last-second push.

The 5-star recruit ranks as high as No. 2 in the 2027 class, but rumors have been swirling around him potentially reclassifying and joining the 2026 class. If he does that and commits to Louisville, then the Cardinals would have a lethal frontcourt highlighted by Ekezie and the No. 1 overall transfer from the portal, Flory Bidunga.

If the Cardinals land the 5-star and he does reclass, it would feel like this is the Cardinals' final piece for a National Championship push. Louisville fans will now wait just a couple more hours to see if their dreams become reality and the Crystal Ball prediction is right, or if Ekezie’s dad played a big role and he commits to Maryland after this recent push.
