College basketball Transfer Portal recruiting isn’t done just yet. College basketball fans recently learned that a Colorado judge granted a preliminary injunction to outgoing seniors from the class of 2022. With this breaking update, seniors now have a fifth year of eligibility, which means Louisville basketball’s roster might not be complete after all.
The Cardinals have 12 players on their roster as of now, which means that if Kelsey wanted to try to add depth and improve his team, he could. Not many know if these players will even be able to play this upcoming season, including Kelsey, but in a recent interview with 247 Sports, Kyle Tucker said Kelsey made it clear he is keeping an eye on it.
Is Louisville basketball's roster complete?
The Cardinals had a crazy busy offseason, as Kelsey landed the No. 1 Transfer Portal class after landing 5-star transfer Flory Bidunga, 4-star transfers Jackson Shelstad, Karter Knox, Alvaro Folgueiras, and others.
The Cardinals replaced nine players while also bringing back Adrian Wooley and London Johnson, and landed three recruits from the 2026 recruiting class, including 5-star Obinna Ekezie Jr. But maybe Louisville isn’t done yet. Kelsey was asked about the recent news involving potentially adding more pieces, and Kelsey made it clear he loves his team but is also staying “vigilant”.
“I love our team, love what we built,” stated Kelsey. “But this craziness that's going on, you have to stay vigilant. I would be not doing my job, and I would be asleep at the wheel, if you're not staying attentive to what's going on out there."
Kelsey made a couple of jokes, saying Lisa (his wife) wants him to be more handsome, implying that the Cardinals and his staff will always try to stay ahead of things, and that if they can improve the team, they will look into it.
Kelsey was asked if he was interested in adding another piece and what he thought Louisville basketball could use more of.
"Forty-two more seven-footers, six or seven more 43 percent three-point shooters," stated Kelsey. "Look, everybody wants something else, but I love our guys. I love the makeup of our team. I'm really proud of how they've come together and how they've bought into what we're trying to do. I can't tell you how excited I am about coaching them and the type of season we're going to have."
It is an interesting time for college basketball with the season only a couple of months away. The Cardinals are trending as a top 15 team in preseason rankings, and currently have the No. 9 highest odds to win the 2027 National Title.
