Louisville basketball is on a huge recruiting surge right now, as the Cardinals are trending with multiple 5-star prospects in the 2027 recruiting class. Pat Kelsey is looking to make a massive splash, and he has his eyes on a few noteworthy recruits.
Louisville has made multiple top-30 overall recruit lists, including four ranked inside the top 10. Right now, 5-star forward DeMarcus Henry is on campus for an official visit after Louisville made his final eight, and while the Cardinals are trending as a potential frontrunner, it appears a new ACC powerhouse is entering the race.
On3 Sports' Joe Tipton reported earlier this week that one of the Cardinals' ACC rivals recently extended an offer to Henry and has a chance to play spoiler for Louisville.
Duke emerges as new threat for 5-star DeMarcus Henry
Henry is emerging as one of Kelsey’s top targets in the 2027 recruiting class. However, the Duke Blue Devils are looking to make a push with Henry, as Tipton reports that the Blue Devils extended an offer, and with the 5-star growing up in the Charlotte area, he believes Duke has a chance to make some noise, despite the late offer.
“Since then, Duke extended him an offer, which could make things interesting," stated Tipton. "Henry grew up in Charlotte and has been vocal that schools like Duke and North Carolina were his dream schools. One of his agents, Carmen Wallace, played basketball at Duke in the 1990s. The Tar Heels were able to gain early momentum, but a late offer from Duke tells me the Blue Devils think they have a chance in this one.”
Henry received his offer from Duke on August 15, and Louisville certainly has to watch out for it. Duke is coming off a dominant run in the 2026 recruiting class, where they landed the No. 1 overall recruiting class in the nation after they landed four 5-stars, including Cameron Williams, who ranks No. 4 overall and No. 1 among power forwards.
The Cardinals are one of eight finalists, battling UConn, Kansas, Arkansas, North Carolina, BYU, Ohio State, and Kentucky for Henry. But Tipton certainly makes it seem like Duke is a real threat to the 'Cardinals' effort to land the 5-star.
Henry ranks as high as No. 2 overall in the 2027 recruiting class and is the unanimous No. 1 small forward in the nation. Right now, Rivals has Louisville as the favorite, with a 40.5 percent chance of landing Henry, followed by Ohio State at 13.3 percent and BYU at 11.4 percent. Everyone else is below two percent.
The 6-foot-7, 200-pound small forward averaged 18.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game this summer at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam event.
Duke could emerge as a major threat and certainly makes it interesting for the Cardinals, but for now, the good news is Louisville is still in a prime position to land the 5-star. Kelsey is eyeing a historic commitment with Henry and hopes to land his third 5-star in three years.
