Louisville basketball gets major chance to separate itself with 5-star SF DeMarcus Henry

Louisville basketball has been making a massive push in the 2027 recruiting class, and they will have one of their top targets on campus today. Pat Kelsey and the Cardinals have been trending with numerous top-30 overall recruits, as they have made multiple updated recruiting lists.

This summer, Kelsey has prioritized a few key prospects in the 2027 cycle, including 5-star point guards Reese Alston and Cayden Daughtry. The Cardinals already earned an official visit from Alston, made the No. 6 overall recruit's final seven, and are working to earn a visit from Daughtry after landing in his final 14.

Another recruit the Cardinals are trending with after making his final eight is top-five overall recruit DeMarcus Henry. Louisville will look to gain some momentum as the Cardinals will host the elite 5-star for an official visit today, according to On3 Sports' Joe Tipton.

5-star SF DeMarcus Henry set to visit Louisville today

Recently, the 5-star small forward cut his list down to just eight schools after earning over 29 offers. The Cardinals are now in a heated recruiting battle with North Carolina, BYU, Kansas, Kentucky, Ohio State, UConn, and Arkansas.

Now, Louisville will try to take a huge lead over these seven programs as Kelsey hosts the unanimous 5-star for a major visit.

Right now, the 5-star small forward ranks as high as No. 2 in the nation, according to ESPN, and ranks as a unanimous top-five overall prospect, as 247 Sports and Rivals rank him No. 3, and On3 Sports ranks him No. 4. The 6-foot-7, 200-pound forward is the unanimous No. 1 small forward in this recruiting class.

Henry is coming off an impressive junior season with Compass Prep, where he earned All-Nike EYBL Scholastic Second Team and MaxPreps All-America Junior honorable mention after averaging 12.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. He also played for Vegas Elite over the summer at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam event, where he made the All-Second Team after averaging 18.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.

Now, UofL has the best chance to land the 5-star, according to Rivals' prediction meter, as Louisville has a 41 percent chance of landing Henry. The next closest team is Ohio State at 13 percent, followed by BYU at 11 percent.

The Cardinals have already positioned themselves as one of the top favorites for this elite 5-star small forward, but now, with today’s visit, they would look to take a big step forward and try to emerge as a clear frontrunner. Kelsey has landed a 5-star in two straight recruiting classes, and if he can land Henry, it would be another massive statement that this Cardinals basketball program is one of the nation's top recruiting programs.
