Louisville basketball is emerging as one of the top recruiting schools since Pat Kelsey has arrived on campus. The Cardinals are a historic program and have always landed some big-time players, but in Kelsey's first two years, he has landed historic recruits.
Pat Kelsey is rewriting Louisville basketball history with his ability to recruit
Kelsey landed the No. 2 and the No. 3 highest-rated recruits in program history, in Mikel Brown Jr. and Obinna Ekezie Jr. He also has been one of the top Transfer Portal recruiters in college basketball, especially the past two offseasons, landing two 5-stars and multiple 4-stars and having the No. 3 ranked portal class in 2025 and the No. 1 ranked portal class in 2026.
Now, Kelsey and the Cardinals look ahead to the 2028 class, which is loaded with Louisville recruits. And since midnight, it has been reported that the Cards are among the many teams to reach out to 4-star Josh Lindsay.
Louisville basketball contacts local 4-star PG Josh Lindsay
In the 2028 recruiting class, multiple Louisville natives ranked inside 247Sports' top 100. However, the clear No. 1 target of these 2028 recruits is the 4-star guard from St. Xavier, Josh Lindsay.
June 15 was the first day colleges could contact 2028 recruits, and by no surprise, Pat Kelsey and the Cards quickly reached out to the hometown 4-star. Louisville is reportedly in an early recruiting battle with 11 other schools, including North Carolina, Auburn, Missouri, USC, Iowa, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Utah, Boston College, Xavier, and WKU, which have all reached out.

Lindsay is a high-flying, super-athletic point guard who can take over any game. The Louisville native averaged 14.0 points per game and shot 35.1 percent from beyond the arc. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound point guard is one of the top-ranked guards in the 2028 recruiting class and is quickly emerging as a potential top target for the Cardinals.
Louisville hasn't extended an offer to Lindsay yet, according to 247 Sports, as the 4-star has received offers from Virginia Tech, LaSalle, Auburn, EKU, Ohio, and Kent State.
However, now that the Cardinals can contact the 4-star, Kelsey is looking to put Louisville right into the mix. The 4-star point guard ranks as high as No. 26 in the 2028 recruiting class, No. 4 among point guards and the No. 1 recruit out of Kentucky.
The Cards fans have been keeping a close eye on Lindsay over this past year, as the 4-star has gone viral a few times for his ability to soar through the air and finish at the rim with a massive dunk. The Cardinals can hopefully earn an early visit and impress the local 4-star with the high-energy Kelsey brings and this Final Four-caliber team.
2028 is still far away, but Lindsay is quickly one of the Cardinals fans' top targets as they all want the hometown 4-star to stay in Louisville and be that hometown hero.
