Louisville basketball is having a dominant offseason, and the Cardinals fans are excited to see this eye-popping roster in action this upcoming season. Louisville has the No. 1 overall portal class in the nation as Pat Kelsey and the Cards landed six transfers, including 5-star Flory Bidunga.
Milan Momcilovic breaks Louisville basketball hearts by picking the enemy instead
The Cardinals are looking to make a National Title push this upcoming season, and they got crushing news last night when they learned that Milan Momcilovic had committed to Kentucky over Louisville. The 5-star power forward would have been a massive addition to the Cardinals, as he ranked No. 2 overall in the portal, but in FanSided’s recent way-too-early rankings, it proves Louisville will be just alright without him.
Louisville gets the perfect response to Milan Momcilovic’s update
The Cardinals were gut-punched last night when the 5-star committed to their biggest rival. Louisville was reportedly in a toss-up with Kentucky for Momcilovic, and when the news broke that he committed to Kentucky over Louisville, it was a bit of a crushing update.
However, Louisville fans quickly remembered that this team is already a Final Four contender and absolutely loaded with talent, and FanSided’s Tristan Freeman ranking Louisville No. 10 proves that.
"Despite losing out on the Momcilovic sweepstakes, Louisville still has a roster more than capable of making a deep run in August. That does put more pressure on forwards Folguerias and Knox to excel, but they should fit well on the roster. They have some of the best center depth in the country, led by Big 12 Defensive POY center Bidunga, while Dynes is a 7’3 shot-blocker and Ekezie is a reclassified top-40 big man."Tristan Freeman
The Cards lost all five starters from this past season, but Louisville quickly rebuilt the roster in impressive fashion. Kelsey added four transfers who rank among the top 65 on 247Sports' portal rankings, including Bidunga, who ranks No. 1 overall.
So, yeah, seeing Momcilovic commit to Kentucky stung, but Freeman and many other reporters have Louisville in their top 10 or top 15 without the 5-star. Louisville is poised for another NCAA Tournament season, and hopefully, Kelsey and the Cards can end their Final Four drought.
Other notable teams in these rankings are Duke at No. 2, Virginia at No. 9, and Kentucky at No. 19. So even with the Wildcats landing Momcilovic, Freeman is one of many who think Louisville will be ranked higher when the season starts.
That December 12 game was going to be circled on every Louisville and Kentucky fan's calendar, but after the 5-star's decision, it just got even bigger.
