Louisville basketball and Pat Kelsey stay red-hot this offseason as the Cardinals land a key 2026 4-star. The Cardinals had to rebuild nearly their entire roster as Kelsey lost the majority of his unit from the previous season, including his entire starting lineup, but he continues to impress and land big-time playmakers.

The most recent one comes Monday evening, following a recent visit over the weekend, as a 4-star wing Boyuan Zhang committed to the Cardinals. Kelsey joined the recruiting process a bit late as Zhang is one of the biggest rising stars in this recruiting class, but Louisville earned a visit this past weekend, which ultimately closed the deal and earned his commitment over ACC and Big Ten programs.

The 4-star recruit transferred to Veritas Academy, where he continued to raise eyebrows after his dominant offseason in the  FIBA U19 World Cup last summer with China. In that event, the 6-foot-8 wing averaged an impressive 14.7 points and 5.1 rebounds a game, and then carried that eye-popping run into his final year in the Nike EYBL Scholastic League.

With Veritas Academy, he led the team in scoring and ranked second in the league in points per game, averaging 20.2 points, while also adding 5.7 rebounds per game. He commits to Louisville over Cal, Oregon, Minnesota, and Illinois, as all four programs earned official visits before Louisville.

The 4-star recruit ranks as high as No. 46 overall and No. 20 among small forwards in the 2026 cycle. Kelsey’s roster is beginning to fill out as he now has a backup small forward for Karter Knox, and is making a serious push to become a Final Four contender.

The Cardinals have now landed three recruits in the 2026 recruiting class as Zhang will join Obinna Ekezie Jr. and Isaac Ellis, who each committed as 2027 recruits, but reclassified to the 2026 cycle. Zhang is the ninth addition this offseason as Louisville also landed six commitments from the Transfer Portal.
