Louisville basketball is currently in the Bahamas, and Cardinals fans got an update about Louisville’s time out of the country. This trip was supposed to include two exhibition games in the Bahamas, but it was just announced on Saturday that Louisville will cut that down to one exhibition game due to availability.
The Cardinals fans are excited to see this team in action, but the most important thing is for everyone to stay healthy and be ready when October rolls around. Their long exhibition game will be played on Tuesday, July 28, and while Louisville might have dropped a game this trip, Pat Klesey made it perfectly clear this is a business trip, not a vacation.
Pat Kelsey says Louisville basketball's Bahamas trip is strictly business
Media recently asked Kelsey whether the Cardinals are going to enjoy the Bahamas and the jet skis with them only playing one game, and Kelsey expressed that Louisville is there to work, not to enjoy the beach.
“There is no jet ski time,” stated Kelsey about Louisville’s trip to the Bahamas. “This is a business trip. This is a very short trip and the end of a long summer. We have several players out right now and playing back-to-back games where guys are playing extended minutes in July; it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. In terms of roster availability, we thought the smartest play was to play one game and get the most out of that, and we will be right back to Louisville. But it is the farthest thing from a jet ski trip as you can possibly imagine.”
Kelsey makes it clear in multiple moments in this quote that the Cardinals aren’t in the Bahamas to enjoy the beach or the jet skis. They are in the Bahamas to get some extra work and build that chemistry, as he added nine new players this offseason and is looking to go on a Final Four run.
“Our administration allowing us to do this is invaluable because you get the extra days of practice. The NCAA requires you to go out of the country on a foreign trip to be able to get those extra practices,” stated Kelsey. “We are lucky to be able to do it. And we will finish this summer the right way.”
Louisville will still have one exhibition game, which should be crucial for Kelsey and his squad. The Cardinals' roster is completely different, and playing someone else shows the coaching staff a lot and helps the team build chemistry and real game-time experience.
