The Louisville Cardinals are preparing for the start of the 2024 season. This team doesn't have high expectations, but they have high expectations for themselves. The Cardinals have a lot to replace on offense, including a change in the running game because of losing their top rusher.

Louisville already has a running back on the Doak Walker Award watchlist. Incoming transfer Donald Chaney is on that list and is likely going to be the starter. Chaney is going to bet the majority of the carries, but he's not the only running back who is going to get carries.

An incoming freshman has a lot of potential to be good for them too. In fact, he was named as a Freshman All-American by ESPN. That running back is Issac Brown. Brown was a three-star recruit coming out of Homestead, Florida and has a lot of things he can bring to the team.

Brown stands at just 5'9 but makes up for his lack of size with his blistering speed. When he gets out in space, he is tough to catch. The Cardinals also might use him as a kick returner because of that speed. He was one of the best kick returners in the state of Florida.

Special teams are how Brown can make his biggest impact right away. Brown still has work to do if he wants to be the starting running back next season once Chaney is gone, but he can build that foundation this season as a freshman. He's someone who the Cardinals are going to need.

Running the ball is going to be the focal point of the offense this season. Brown is going to get opportunities not just in rushing the ball but also in the passing game. He's a good guy to swing out into the flat and let him gobble up yards.
