The Louisville football team is finally ready to start its season. Austin Peay is the opponent for the season opener and the Cardinals couldn't be playing a better opponent for their first game. They need someone easy to play while they figure out the offense.

Replacing as many starters as they have this season is not ideal, especially on offense. A new quarterback, starting running back, and number-one receiver is going to make this team look a lot different this year. That's why this first game is so important.

Louisville has been a favorite for a while but the line has changed this week. The barometer for success for this team is not whether or not they win this game, it's whether or not they are able to cover. If they do, Louisville Cardinals fans should be excited about what they might see this year.

The Louisville football team vs. Austin Peay's final odds

According to DraftKings, the Cardinals are 36.5-point favorites. The over/under is 54.5. That's a really large spread to cover, but the Cardinals still should be able to do that. Austin Peay is terrible. The only reason why they may not be able to cover the spread is if the weather is bad.

If the weather is bad, I could see Louisville winning by 21. Either way, there is no reason why the Cardinals shouldn't win the game by at least three scores. Anything less than that and fans should be concerned about the direction of this team.

I think the Cardinals are able to win this game without too many issues. I think Tyler Shough and Donald Chaney give plenty of offense and they win this game handily. Even if the weather is bad, there's still reason this game should be close. Give me the Cardinals 52-7.
