Numbers that show the Louisville football team's offense needs to be taken seriously
By Ryan Stano
The Louisville football team was able to get some rest this weekend while they were on their bye week. They didn't have to worry about losing to an inferior opponent or struggling to get by like so many other teams around the country have. It was a nice break.
Although, the Cardinals may have wanted to keep playing instead of having a week of broken momentum. They were rolling in their first two games of the season. Against both Austin Peay and Jacksonville State, the Louisville Cardinals crushed it. That was especially true on offense.
No one expected this team to be able to put up 62 points on anyone. That's what they did against Austin Peay in the opener. They followed that up with a 49-point output against the Jaguars. They are putting up some offensive numbers that prove they need to be taken seriously.

Running the ball is an important part of this offense. Through two games, the Cardinals have racked up 526 yards on the ground. That's good enough for 263 yards per game. If you can run the ball that effectively, that really helps Tyler Shough and the passing game.
Speaking of Shough, he has looked pretty good now that he's healthy. Through the first two games of the year, he has 581 yards passing and six touchdowns. The best part is that he hasn't thrown an interception yet this year. If he's able to keep doing that, this offense is extremely difficult to stop.
This is a good football team right now. They should only get better as the weeks go along too. The schedule starts to ramp up next week with Georgia Tech on the docket. Once that game is played, we can really start to gauge how good this team is.
