The Louisville football team's ever-clearer path to the College Football Playoff

The Louisville football team has dominated in the first two games of the season. Their path to the CFP is getting clearer each week.

The Louisville football team is in a much better position than they were this time a year ago. While the Cardinals were 2-0 last year too, this year's team could be better. That's because no one expected this team to be any good this year after they lost so many contributors on offense.

This offense might arguably be the strongest part of this team right now. They have scored 62 and 49 points in each of the first two games. If they keep scoring at those levels, the defense won't have to be spectacular. This team was supposed to have a really good defense and an average offense. Both units might be great.

Looking at how multiple other teams have faltered around the country, the Louisville Cardinals' schedule has suddenly become a lot easier. Their path to the College Football Playoff has gotten clearer through the first two weeks of the season as they enjoy their bye week.

How the rest of the Louisville football team's schedule sets up for them

Coming out of the bye week, the Cardinals take on Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a loss to Syracuse. That should be a win for Louisville. The following week, the Cardinals head to South Bend to take on Notre Dame. That's still probably the hardest game on the schedule and that could be for Notre Dame's season. That might be a loss.

SMU and Virginia are the next two opponents and neither should pose a threat to the Cardinals. Miami comes to town on October 19th in what could be a battle for first place in the ACC. That's the game that will determine if the Cardinals are the favorites to get the automatic bid from winning the conference or an outside shot for an at-large bid.

Other than that Miami game, the only other tough ACC game they have on their schedule is at Boston College the following week. They also have to travel to Clemson the week after that. I don't think the Tigers are very good though, so they should win that one,

Things are going well for the Cardinals so far. They hope things stay that way.
