The Louisville football team all of a sudden has a shot to win the ACC

The Louisville football team has more of a chance to win the conference than initially thought.

The Louisville football team played in the ACC Championship Game last year. No one gave them much of a chance to repeat that feat this year as they were picked to finish fifth in the conference. Despite that fact, the Cardinals have a real shot to not just play for the ACC Championship this year, but to win it all.

Winning a game 62-0 should give this team an enormous amount of confidence. Even though it was just Austin Peay, winning a game by that many points is still impressive. The competition obviously wasn't great, but the Cardinals showed that they have enough offense to truly compete with everyone.

Defensively, the Cardinals were as good as advertised. They even scored a defensive touchdown. Louisville should be able to keep that level of play up on defense no matter who they play. It's not just the play of the Cardinals themselves that leads me to think they can win the conference.

No one else in the ACC has shown a ton of promise. Florida State has already lost a game in the conference. Clemson couldn't even score a touchdown against Georgia. NC State struggled against a poor Western Carolina team. The only ranked ACC team that looked good was Miami.

Louisville gets Miami at home, which certainly helps. That game could end up deciding who has the lead in the conference heading into November. Louisville could very well be undefeated in the conference heading into that game. Even if they lose to the Hurricanes in that matchup, there could be a rematch in the ACC Championship Game.

There's a strong chance that the Cardinals start next week as a ranked team. They obviously are more concerned about how highly they are ranked at the end of the season than they are now when it's the beginning of the year.
