The Louisville football team shows they can really run it against Jacksonville State
By Ryan Stano
The Louisville football team has really surprised a lot of people early in the season. They are 2-0 and have scored a combined 111 points. The Cardinals have been able to put together a very impressive couple of weeks offensively. A big reason for that has been their ability to run the ball.
Running the ball is a staple of Jeff Brohm's offense. It certainly has been a staple in each of the first two weeks of the year. Against Jacksonville State, they ran the ball for 234 yards and five touchdowns. That's even better than their output against Austin Peay.
What has been impressive about how the Cardinals have run the ball is the fact that they have had a bunch of guys be really productive. It has been running back by committee and it seems like that is the best approach for the Cardinals so far this season.
The Louisville football team is a great running team
The Cardinals have a lot of guys they can turn to. On Saturday, Maurice Turner was the featured back. He had 12 carries for 60 yards and a touchdown. While he might be the guy who got the most carries on Saturday, he might not be next week. They have other guys they trust.
Duke Watson showed that he has big-play ability in this one, running the ball for 51 yards on just four carries. He had a 40-yard touchdown in this one. Isaac Brown had some explosive runs last week, so the Cardinals clearly have more than one guy that they think can break off big runs.
The run game will continue to be an important part of the offense this season. Louisville is now up to 19th in the polls and they will only keep rising if they keep up their winning ways.
