What the Louisville football team should expect from Jacksonville State
By Ryan Stano
The Louisville football team is riding high off their Week 1 victory over Austin Peay. They scored a whopping 62 points and looked like one of the best teams in the ACC. While the competition wasn't very strong, they still pitched a shutout and scored 62 points.
That victory is important for a team that needs confidence offensively. Now, they have to repeat that performance against an FBS opponent. The Cardinals take on Jacksonville State in Week 2. The Jaguars got their doors blown off against Coastal Carolina 55-27.
Jacksonville State is coached by Rich Rodriguez, the former Michigan and West Virginia coach. His team isn't very talented. They only scored ten points in the first half against Coastal Carolina. What should the Louisville Cardinals expect from them in Week 2?
The Louisville football team's defense will get tested against Jacksonville State
Louisville is a team that is built to rely on the defense. Most of their best players are on that side of the ball. That's why the offensive output in Week 1 was so surprising. That defense will get a little more tested against the Jaguars. They will actually score some points.
The good news is that the Cardinals are going to be able to run the ball at will. Jacksonville State gave up a whopping 294 yards and three touchdowns on the ground last week. Louisville has a better offensive line than Coastal Carolina so Issac Brown and company are going to run wild.
Louisville is going to crush it on the ground. They ran for 293 yards on just 28 carries, and that includes two runs for -18 yards from the quarterbacks when they were sacked. I'd expect them to run for close to 300 yards again this week.
The Louisville Cardinals can use these first two weeks to build some confidence in their team before the going starts to get tough.
