Staying: TJ Capers, LB
Sophomore TJ Capers was one potential transfer portal flight that Louisville averted after last year's spring football game. Capers was thrust into playing time early in the season after starter Stanquan Clark sustained an injury, a role Capers excelled in all season for defensive coordinator Ron English and the Cardinals. Capers came up with many big tackles in key situations, but his most memorable moment came with the game-sealing interception from Carson Beck when Louisville pulled off the major upset of the then No. 2 Miami Hurricanes.
Having Capers back alongside fellow linebackers Antonio Watts and Stanquan Clark would instantly make the Louisville linebacking corps one of the most veteran and feared groups not only in the ACC, but in the country. Retaining the talented veterans at such an important position on the defense will be a critical step towards building a roster that can compete for next season. Capers has definitely shown that his 5-star recruiting rating out of high school was no fluke. Let’s hope the Louisville Cardinals can retain the star linebackers and sure up the crucial defensive position group.
