Louisville basketball seems to be in a fierce battle with an SEC powerhouse for one of the best shooting guards in the transfer portal. A glaring area the Cardinals need to improve is their shooting from beyond the arc, and Isaac McKneely, a sharpshooter transferring out of Virginia, has been linked to Pat Kelsey and Louisville basketball.
McKneely is set to visit the Tennessee Volunteers next Tuesday, April 1, according to Knox News. The lethal shooter is ranked as a top ten player in this years transfer portal and is ranked as high as No. 6 according to On3.
Tennessee lands a visit with Louisville basketball No. 1 option
McKneely is a perfect fit for Kelsey and this Cardinals offense. Last year, Louisville's 3-point shooting was a glaring weakness, and Kelsey has shown he wants that to improve. Louisville's inconsistency was the main reason that cost them down the stretch, and McKneely is one of the best shooters in this portal who would elevate this offense to the next level.
The Virginia transfer averaged 14.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists while shooting 43.9 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from beyond the arc. He splashed 101 threes last season and 233 threes in three years with the Cavaliers.
McKneely averaged 3.5 threes per game last season and etched his name as one of the best shooters in the nation. The Cardinals still haven't heard any news if he will visit the Cardinals, but Louisville is one of the top landing spots for the former Cavaliers sharpshooter.
Louisville basketball has only lost one player to the transfer portal, Koren Johnson, who entered his name this morning. Pat Kelsey has been all-in on the transfer portal this offseason and has reached out to some elite guards, including the portal's No. 1 overall player, Donovan Dent.
Kelsey recently stated they are refreshing the portal "every 15-and-a-half seconds" and are doing everything they can to elevate this program to National Championship contenders. The Cardinals will try to land McKneely over the Tennessee Volunteers this offseason.
