Louisville basketball has earned a lot of attention this offseason, and a major reason is the Transfer Portal. The Cardinals added nine players this offseason, including six from the Transfer Portal, earning the No. 1 overall Transfer Portal class.
Now, Louisville has one of the highest odds to win the 2027 National Championship and is trending as a top 15 team in the nation. However, it appears Kelsey isn’t done just yet. Recently, a major ruling granted eligibility and a fifth year to the class of 2022, prompting many players to return for a final year.
Louisville fans weren’t sure whether the Cardinals would get involved with this new ruling, but with Louisville having only 12 players on its roster, the Cardinals appear to be making a push for a major addition. According to Keeping It Heel’s Nick Delahanty, Louisville is in the running to add Seth Trimble in what would be a stunning addition for Kelsey’s squad.

The Cardinals head coach talked about the ruling with 247Sports earlier this month, and while he stated he loves his team, he also made it clear he isn’t living under a rock.
“But this craziness that's going on, you have to stay vigilant,” stated Kelsey. “I would not be doing my job, and I would be asleep at the wheel, if you're not staying attentive to what's going on out there."
Well, now the Cardinals fans have their answer, as it appears Louisville is targeting the former Tar Heel. Trimble recently signed with the Washington Wizards and played for them this summer in the NBA Summer League, so he has to make a decision sooner rather than later about whether he is playing pro or coming back to college basketball.
Delahanty makes it seem like there is a good chance the UNC star returns, and not to North Carolina.
“There's a realistic chance that Seth Trimble plays college basketball for another program next season,” stated Delahanty ”It's also likely that Trimble could end up in the ACC and, in turn, could compete against the Tar Heels at some point this season.”
Trimble is coming off his best season, averaging 14.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 47 percent from the field. The Cardinals have already added former 5-star point guard Jackson Shelstad, but if the Cardinals could add Trimble, Louisville’s chances for a National Title would go even higher.
The Cardinals fans are keeping a close eye on this, as this would be major news for the upcoming season. It is one thing to add a player from this recent ruling, and if Louisville steals one of North Carolina’s leading scorers from this past season, that would make it even better.
