Louisville football had a monster offseason, landing over 34 players from the Transfer Portal. Jeff Brohm put on his recruiting hat and landed some big-time playmakers like Tre Richardson, Marquise Davis, Lawayne McCoy, and others, and now this Cardinals squad is looking like a true threat in the ACC.

247Sports recently released its final Transfer Portal rankings, and when Cardinals fans look at Louisville's ranking, they might feel disrespected. While that is a discussion for another day, as Louisville definitely has a case to be ranked higher, it is important to note that 247Sports rankings are based solely on additions, which is why Louisville ranks No. 13.

The glaring truth behind Louisville football's final 247Sports portal rankings

Louisville's No. 13 ranking shows Brohm had a big offseason, as the portal additions rank No. 13 in these final rankings, but it doesn't tell the whole story. The glaring truth is that they aren’t higher because 247 Sports doesn’t consider the half of the work Brohm did.

The biggest update this offseason for the Cardinals might have been the players Brohm recruited from within. Brohm and Vince Marrow put in the work and avoided any nightmare scenarios, including losing elite players like Isaac Brown, AJ Green, Antonio Watts, and others.

Brown is one of the best running backs in the nation, and when he entered the transfer portal, he was ranked No. 16 overall and No. 1 at his position. However, Brohm avoided that nightmare and convinced the elite running back to return.

The Cardinals' additions are a big reason this offseason was successful, but it is important to note that 247Sports rankings don’t account for the other half of the Transfer Portal, which is who you lose or don't lose. On3 Sports rankings are based on additions and losses, and in those rankings, the Cardinals are No. 5.

So, don’t get too upset, Louisville fans, about the 247Sports rankings. It is always noteworthy to be ranked in the top 15, but Cardinals fans know that if they consider key returners, Louisville would be much higher than No. 13.
