The spring football period has officially ended and the Louisville Cardinals are one step closer to kicking off Labor Day weekend against the Ole Miss Rebels. Jeff Brohm and his staff have put together an exceptional roster once again to compete next season. The pieces to the puzzle appear to be falling into place and the Cardinals once again are expected to be in the top tier of teams in the ACC for the 2026 football season.
Louisville sends a message the fanbase needed with a mega-deal to lock up Jeff Brohm
The running game once again will be the focal point of the offense, with returning stars Isaac Brown and Keyjuan Brown heading the rushing attack from the backfield. New starting quarterback Lincoln Kienholz will also be asked to shoulder quite the load as he settles into Brohm’s system. The hope from all Cardinals fans is that Kienholz is able to click within the offense with more efficiency than last year’s starter Miller Moss. However, one position group will have to overcome early adversity if Kienholz wants to have a chance at having a massive impact on the offense.
This position group has to step up after early injuries have sidelined 2 of their anticipated production pieces.
The wide receiver position group had a disappointing setback earlier this spring with the announcement that wide receivers Kris Hughes and Montavin Quisenberry could potentially be out of the 2026 season. This puts increased pressure on newcomers such as Tre Richardson and Lawayne McCoy to elevate their games.
Tre Richardson showed full well last season that he is capable of playing the position at an incredibly high level while at Vanderbilt. His 806 receiving yards to go along with his 7 receiving touchdowns immediately place him as one of the receivers to watch entering the season. His experience and playmaking ability will be imperative to Kienholz’s success. Brohm and company hope to see a repeat in this production as the perfect complement to the high producing rushing attack.
Lawayne McCoy will also be asked to play an advanced role for Jeff Brohm’s offense next season. The Florida St. transfer had a respectable year last season, with 396 receiving yards as well as 3 receiving touchdowns. The hope is that McCoy can be the perfect complement to Richardson, a strong second option for Lincoln Kienholz. It will be crucial that these 2 receivers as well as the new quarterback click and be in sync quickly if Louisville wants to return to the ACC Championship next season.
