This glaring stat proves the Louisville Cardinals belong in the elite conversation
Louisville athletics have had a sensational year, even if the endings haven't been exactly what fans were looking for. The Cardinals' football, basketball, and baseball seasons have each had their own postseason runs, joining an elite group of teams in a notable statistic.
The Cardinals are just one of 14 teams to make a College Football bowl game, NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, and NCAA Baseball Tournament in the 2024-2025 seasons. These 14 teams are highlighted by the 2024-25 NCAA Tournament champions, the Florida Gators. The SEC makes up nine of the 14 teams, as Alabama, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas, Arkansas, Georgia, and Oklahoma are the other SEC programs to earn a postseason run in these three sports.
The ACC has four teams in the group, with the Clemson Tigers, Duke Blue Devils, and the North Carolina Tar Heels joining the Cardinals in the elite category. Representing the Big 10 are the Oregon Ducks.
The Cardinals made their first appearance in the Big Dance for baseball since 2022 and their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament for basketball since the 2018-2019 season. The Cards' basketball postseason run fell short as they lost to Creighton in the first round. Baseball's quest to Omaha begins this Friday at 2 p.m. local time against East Tennessee State.
Jeff Brohm and his Cardinals earned their second straight nine-win season after the Cards secured a 35-34 win against Washington in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl. These three programs are all trending up and in the right direction, as basketball and football are emerging as ACC favorites for the 2025-26 season.
The group shrinks when you eliminate football and make a slight adjustment to the list. Only nine programs made the NCAA Tournaments in baseball, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, and Women's Volleyball. The ACC is represented by two programs, with Louisville and North Carolina being the ACC's representatives.
