3. Chucky Hepburn buzzer beater sends Louisville to the ACC Championship game - March 2025
Perhaps the most thrilling moment of the 2024-2025 Louisville basketball season came near its end, as the Cardinals were working their way through the ACC tournament before the start of the NCAA tournament. The Louisville Cardinals were in a tough battle against the Stanford Cardinal, a team they had just defeated earlier that day on their senior day. Louisville had come back from a 15-point deficit in the second half when the last possession of the game came with the ball in their hands.
Terrance Edwards had the ball in his hands, as he had been the hot shooter of the night, finishing with 25 points for the game. He put up an errant, contested 3-pointer that bounced off the rim, right to a Stanford rebounder. The shuffle for the rebound caused the ball to break loose, right into the hands of Chucky Hepburn. Hepburn then put up the smoothest of free-throw jump shots that fell right through the hoop and into Louisville basketball lore. The excitement, the totality of the moment, knowing the Cardinals were heading to the ACC Championship game, and the realization that postseason success was back for Louisville basketball were all feelings Cards fans will remember for a long time.
