This summer, Pat Kelsey and Louisville basketball have been very involved in high school recruiting. The notable camps and events have wrapped up for the most part, and Kelsey was seen watching some of the top-ranked recruits in the 2027 cycle.
Louisville has landed at least one 5-star in two consecutive high school recruiting classes, and while it is still early in the 2027 recruiting process, Kelsey and Louisville are trying to gain some momentum with some of the nation's top prospects.
So, here are the top three 5-star prospects in the 2027 recruiting class that Louisville basketball is making the most noise with.
Darius Wabbington
One of the top recruits Louisville basketball is trending with is the 5-star center, Darius Wabbington. The Cardinals are in a heated recruiting battle for the 6-foot-11, 245-pound center, as they received a major update earlier this summer.
Wabbington earned over 23 offers but cut his list down to six schools, where the Cardinals are now facing Kentucky, North Carolina, Indiana, Texas, and Arizona. In addition to making the 5-star final six, Louisville learned that the Cardinals will host the 5-star for an official visit on September 11. Wabbington ranks as high as No. Â 14 overall in the 2027 recruiting class and No. 3 among centers.
Demarcus Henry
Another 5-star recruit in the 2027 recruiting class the Cardinals got a major update from is the elite forward, Demarcus Henry. The highly recruited small forward earned over 28 offers and cut his list to just eight schools, where Louisville is now in a fierce recruiting battle against UConn, Kansas, Arkansas, North Carolina, BYU, Ohio State, and Kentucky.
The 6-foot-7, 200-pound small forward is the consensus No. 1 overall small forward in the 2027 recruiting class and ranks as high as No. 3 overall in the cycle. Henry reportedly plans to visit all eight programs before deciding in the spring.
Reese Alston
Finally, one 5-star Louisville basketball fan is keeping a close eye on the 2027 recruiting class: the 5-star point guard Reese Alston. The Houston point guard is one of the top-ranked players overall in the 2027 recruiting class, and this summer Pat Kelsey has made a consistently strong push for Alston.
Kelsey has attended multiple of Alston’s games this summer and in different states. Now, Louisville is one of the top teams in the mix for Alston, as Jamie Shaw from On3 Sports also reports Kentucky, Wichita State, and LSU are in the race as well. Alston ranks as high as No. 6 in the 2027 recruiting class and No. 2 among point guards.
