The Selection Show is officially completed, the NCAA tournament bracket is set, and Louisville basketball's path is shaping up to be an incredibly difficult challenge for the Cardinals. The Cardinals have found themselves to be a No. 6 seed in the East Region, with ACC foe Duke as their No. 1 seed and the top overall seed in the tournament. Louisville will start its path to the Final Four against the South Florida Bulls, its No. 11 seed matchup for the first round.
Louisville basketball gets nightmare NCAA Tournament draw in loaded East Region
This tournament will be a time for Louisville to rewrite the weaknesses that Cardinals fans have seen from this team all season. They will face strength, length, physicality, and extreme talent, all pieces of a puzzle that Louisville has failed to solve time and time again. Luckily, Louisville has the talent to overcome these struggles and shoot its way into the history books, so long as it can find its touch. It will be an exciting week nonetheless as fans anticipate the start of Louisville’s path this Thursday.
5. Louisville faces similar style offense to start
Louisville will face the South Florida Bulls, the No. 11 seed and the AAC Tournament Champs, in their first matchup of the 2026 NCAA tourney. South Florida is a dangerous, fast-paced offensive team that plays a similar brand of basketball as Louisville. They drive, spread the floor, and kick out to open shooters, just like Louisville does.
The hope is that Louisville has superior talent and plays that brand of basketball at a higher success rate. Louisville has played well against teams that attempt to mimic Louisville’s style of play, especially when they have the likes of Mikel Brown Jr. and Ryan Conwell running the floor and making shots from the outside. This test will not be easy, but one that the Cardinals should overcome to have their first win in the NCAA tournament since 2017.
