Louisville basketball is making a major push in the 2027 recruiting class, and Cardinals fans are keeping a close eye on several targets. Pat Kelsey has completely elevated this program's recruiting efforts, as Louisville landed a 5-star in two consecutive classes (Mikel Brown Jr. and Obinna Ekezie Jr.), and now he is putting the Cardinals in a prime position to land another.

Louisville gets major recruiting competition from Kentucky for 5-star DeMarcus Henry

Some notable recruits who stand out to the Cardinals and their fans include multiple 5-star prospects like CJ Rosser, Reese Alston, and DeMarcus Henry. All three recruits have taken an official visit to Louisville or have one scheduled, including Henry and Alston, whom Kelsey visited in September.

Henry has emerged as one of Kelsey’s top targets, and in On3 Sports Jamie Shaw's most recent recruiting update, Louisville and the fans finally got a commitment timeline and a potential lead on the commitment date.

5-star DeMarcus Henry eyes his birthday for a commitment date

Louisville has made it clear they are high on Henry, especially in the month of September. The Cardinals hosted the 5-star recruit in early September, then, shortly after, Louisville took a trip to visit Henry again to build that relationship and try to emerge as a favorite for the 5-star.

Henry has cut his list to eight schools, putting Louisville in a recruiting battle with UConn, Kansas, Arkansas, North Carolina, BYU, Ohio State, and Kentucky. However, many believe UConn is out after the Huskies landed a 5-star small forward, and many believe Duke might have found themselves in the mix.

Now, after Louisville and Kelsey have made a strong push for the 5-star, everyone is waiting for the decision. And according to Shaw and Henry, we might not have to wait much longer.

“I’ll probably want to commit on my birthday, October 30,” stated Henry, according to Jamie Shaw. “That’s probably when I’m going to commit.

Louisville fans are keeping a close eye on Henry, who ranks as the unanimous No. 1 small forward in the 2027 recruiting class and a unanimous top-five overall prospect. Henry ranks as high as No. 2 overall, and Louisville is emerging as one of the biggest threats.

Right now, Joe Tipton believes Arkansas has a slight lead, and he thinks Louisville is right behind the Razorbacks. Rivals' prediction meter gives Kentucky the edge with a 22.4 percent chance of landing the 5-star, with Louisville next at 19.6 percent.

Kelsey and the Cardinals have strong momentum with this 5-star, and with the commitment coming up quickly, the Cardinals must keep their foot on the gas. The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 18.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam this summer.
