A lot of buzz right now surrounds the 2028 recruiting class, as college programs are officially allowed to contact these recruits in the 2028 cycle. So, with Louisville basketball and Pat Kelsey able to contact these recruits, the Cards are taking full advantage, reaching out to some of the best in the nation and the state.
Pat Kelsey and Louisville waste no time targeting Kentucky's top-ranked 2028 prospect
Recently, Louisville contacted multiple Kentucky natives, including the state's top recruits, Josh Lindsay and Jordan Mitchell. Lindsay is a 4-star recruit who ranks as high as No. 4 among point guards and No. 26 among 2028 recruits. As for Mitchell, he is the No. 2 recruit out of Kentucky, No. 10 among shooting guards and No. 46 overall in the 2028 recruiting class.
Now, Louisville just reached out to 5-star Josiah Rose, and shortly after, it was reported that the Cardinals extended an offer to the elite combo guard.

Kelsey has been an elite recruiter since he arrived at Louisville, especially in the Transfer Portal. The Cardinals have landed a combined 9 transfers over the past 2 offseasons and have had the No. 3 and No. 1 ranked portal classes.
Now, Kelsey is going to try to carry that momentum into high school recruiting, as 247Sports' Jody Demling was the first to report the Cardinals extended an offer to the elite 5-star guard.
Rose is one of the top-ranked recruits in the nation, as he is a unanimous top 30 prospect in the 2028 recruiting class and is ranked as high as No. 6 overall in the nation, No. 1 among point guards, and the No. 1 recruit out of Texas, according to Rivals. The 5-star guard is also ranked as a combo guard by 247Sports, where they rank him No. 25 in the nation, No. 4 among combo guards, and No. 2 out of Texas.
The 5-star guard has logged over 17 offers already, including from major programs like Kansas, Houston, Tennessee, SMU, UCLA, Texas Tech, Indiana, Baylor, and others. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound is one of the biggest risers in the 2028 recruiting class, as many believe the 5-star is poised to soar in the updated rankings at the end of the summer.
This past season, Faith Family Academy's elite guard averaged 15.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in the Nike EYBL Scholastic League.
Louisville is looking to get off to a hot start in the 2028 recruiting class and try not only to dominate the portal but also high school recruiting. Louisville has had two historic commitments since Kelsey arrived with Mikel Brown Jr. and Obinna Ekezie Jr., but now Kelsey will try to take that to the next level and will try to compete with Duke and Kansas in college basketball's high school recruiting.
A good way to compete with these elite high school recruiting programs is to land big-time recruits like Rose, Mitchell and Lindsay. The 2028 recruiting class is loaded with talent, and the Cardinals are making an early push.
