Louisville football is having over 10 recruits on campus this weekend for official visits, and one of them is a talented quarterback from Kentucky. Jeff Brohm is known as the quarterback whisperer, as the Cardinals head coach has shown he is one of the best quarterback developers in college football, and he does it with these underrated quarterbacks.
Louisville football set to host surging 4-star linebacker in key recruiting battle
The Cardinals have many notable recruits on campus this weekend, including 4-star linebacker Theo Wilson. The Florida native ranks as high as No. 292 in ESPN rankings and as the No. 20 linebacker in the 2027 cycle.
Joining Wilson on Louisville’s campus this weekend is one of the Cardinals' top quarterback prospects in the 2027 recruiting class, Dre’mail Carothers.
Jeff Brohm hosts in-state 3-star QB Dre’mail Carothers for official visit
Louisville’s first commitment in the 2027 recruiting class was the 4-star quarterback Jack Sogi, but the 4-star decommitted from Louisville, forcing the Cardinals and Brohm to look for another QB in the class. Sorgi was an unranked commitment when Louisville hosted him for a summer visit in 2025, and after Brohm landed him, he soared to a 4-star QB and ranks as high as No. 333 in the 2027 cycle.
With Sorgi now a Wisconsin commitment and him no longer a Louisville commit, Brohm is forced to try to find his next star quarterback in the 2027 cycle. Well, shortly after Sorgi decommitted, Brohm and Louisville quickly extended an offer to Carothers, and he now appears to be Brohm’s new No. 1 QB target in the 2027 cycle.
The Kentucky native QB plays high school football at Owensboro Catholic High School, where he had an eye-popping junior campaign. Carothers threw a dominant 4,0001 yards and 49 touchdowns this past season while completing 67 percent of his 424 passes. On top of those dominant passing stats, he rushed for 114 yards and one touchdown.
Carothers did get some playing time at quarterback his sophomore year, and in just 68 passing attempts, the 3-star quarterback threw for 701 yards and eight touchdowns as the backup QB.
Now, he ranks as high as No. 855 in the 2027 recruiting cycle, No. 40 among quarterbacks and No. 11 in the state of Kentucky. Louisville fans know how much Brohm and Vince Marrow prioritize their home state, and if they can land the 3-star QB, it would be another key commitment for the Cardinals.
As of now, Louisville has 15 commitments in the 2027 cycle and ranks No. 22 in the nation. Of Brohm and Marrow’s 15 commitments, four are from Kentucky, and all four rank in 247Sports' top nine from the state of Kentucky.
Carothers has received over 14 offers so far, and Louisville appears to be in a recruiting battle with North Carolina and USF. UNC had a 3-star on campus for a visit on May 29, and USF is scheduled next after his visit to Louisville on June 19.
