Louisville football is turning its focus from the Transfer Portal and the Cardinals' offseason additions to the 2027 and 2028 recruiting classes. The Cardinals had a massive month in January, extending well over 100 offers to elite recruits, including a few 5-stars.
Ever since the Cardinals ripped Vince Marrow away from Kentucky, the Cardinals Executive Director of Player Personnel and Recruiting, Jeff Brohm, and the Cardinals have done a phenomenal job recruiting, whether that is through the portal or these recruiting classes. Recently Louisville landed its sixth highest commitment in program history in 4-star cornerback Allen Evans.
And now, the duo is shooting for the moon as they recently extended an offer to an elite 5-star recruit, Kameron McGee.

Louisville football enters recruiting race for elite 5-star
McGee is one of the top-ranked recruits in the 2028 recruiting class, sitting as a consensus top-15 recruit and ranked as high as a 5-star recruit and the No. 6 overall prospect. Louisville made its offer in late January, putting it in the mix for the 5-star recruit, who has already collected over 31 offers.

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound edge rusher is going to be an intense recruiting battle as he has already earned offers from Alabama, Penn State, Oklahoma, Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon, Notre Dame, and many other Power Four programs.
The 5-star recruit had a monster 2025 season as he collected an impressive 54 tackles, including 21 tackles for a loss, 20 pressures, and 10.5 sacks. He also added nine pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble. The sophomore edge rusher is already a dominant force, showing why he is worth all the hype.
Louisville will have an uphill battle to earn the Illinois native's commitment over programs like Alabama, Notre Dame, and Georgia, but Brohm and Marrow have created an elite edge-rusher room with Clev Lubin, Tyler Thompson, AJ Green, and Jerod Smith II. These four edge rushers combined for 22 sacks last season, and if they can live up to their expectations, it not only could generate wins on the field but it could attract elite edge rushers to play for Brohm in the future, like McGee.
Louisville is trending in the right direction with recruiting, as the Cardinals have the fifth-ranked offseason according to On3 Sports and have landed four 2027 4-stars, which proves it. Now, they are trying to take that next step and land 5-star talent. It won’t be easy, but the Cardinals fans should keep their eyes on McGee and his recruiting class after Brohm and Marrow shot for the moon and made an offer.
