Jeff Brohm has Louisville football in prime position to make program history

Louisville football fans are excited for the fall, as Jeff Brohm is making some noise leading up to the 2026 season. Brohm added one of the top Transfer Portal classes in the nation this offseason, adding over 32 transfers, including multiple 4-stars and his starting quarterback.

Louisville currently has the third-highest odds to win the ACC, only behind Miami and SMU, and with Louisville’s favorable schedule, many fans truly believe this could be the year the Cardinals make some College Football Playoff noise. Louisville has never made it to the College Football Playoff, but some believe that can change.

Louisville football has a real shot to make CFP history in 2026

When looking at who has never made it to the College Football Playoffs, and who has a real chance at punching their ticket this upcoming season, the Cardinals stand out. Brohm has built a true CFP contender this offseason and continues to turn heads.

Louisville doesn’t have to play Miami, Clemson, Duke, or Virginia this year, and while they do have some challenging opponents in SMU, North Carolina State, Pitt, and Georgia Tech, they also play five of the bottom seven teams from the 2025 ACC standings.

On top of the Cardinals' favorable schedule, Brohm had a masterclass offseason. Lincoln Kienholz will get his time to try and lead a college football program, coming over from Ohio State, and Brohm loaded up the wide receiver room with talent, adding Tre Richardson and Lawayne McCoy.

Then, of course, the best asset of this team is the running back room. Brohm brought back Isaac Brown and Keyjuan Brown, two proven star running backs. Isaac averaged a dominant 8.8 yards per carry this past season, while Keyjuan stepped up in games Isaac wasn’t available, and he averaged 7.3 yards per carry.

This offense has a lot of talent and is expected to be an explosive group that can score with almost anybody. Brohm has proven he can coach against the best of the best, beating No. 2 Miami on the road last year, and now Louisville just needs to put together a full season and punch its first ticket to the College Football Playoffs.

The Cardinals get Ole Miss in Tennessee in Week 1, and if they can pull off that upset, the Cardinals could be a true favorite to make the CFP for the first time.
