The countdown to Week 1 has begun as Louisville football is set to take on the Ole Miss Rebels in a huge showdown in Tennessee on Sept. 6. The Cardinals are coming off another nine-win season under Jeff Brohm, but now Louisville is looking to take it to the next level.
The Cardinals are eyeing the ACC Championship game and the College Football Playoffs, and a big reason why is this offense. Brohm added elite playmakers on the outside in Tre Richardson and Lawayne McCoy, added Lincoln Kienholz at quarterback from Ohio State, and of course he brought back this stacked running back room.
Louisville’s running back room has earned a lot of praise this offseason, ranking inside CBS Sports' top five, and now the ACC Network just gave them even more praise.
Louisville football's RB room continues to get high praise
When looking at Louisville's two key returners in Isaac Brown and Keyjuan Brown, it is hard to name better running back rooms. The two Cardinals have proven they can be dominant in the ACC, and now as Louisville gears up for its first game, the ACC Network just gave them even more high praise.
“The best thing about this team this year is this running back room,” stated Eric Lain. “I mean it might be as dynamic as it gets in the entire country and it is led by Isaac Brown. This is a guy who can score from 90, he can score from one, and everything in between. He is such a good player. And such a vital piece of this program.”
Brown was banged up this past season, missing five games. However, Brown continues to be one of the best running backs in the country, as in his eight games he rushed for 8.8 yards per carry, 884 yards, and seven touchdowns.
And as many Louisville fans know, he had a historic freshman season, rushing for 1,173 yards and 7.1 yards per carry. He broke Louisville’s true freshman rushing yard record and went on to win the ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year and the ACC Rookie of the Year.
“He also has help. That is a table of backs in that backfield. I know coach Brohm doesn’t want to run it 100 times a game, but when you have guys this good, you've got to maybe over commit to that,” stated Lain later on.
When he mentions help for Brown, he is, of course, talking about Keyjuan Brown and Marquise Davis. Brown is coming off an impressive season with Louisville, rushing for 704 yards while averaging 7.3 yards per carry.
With Isaac and Duke Watson banged up this past season, Keyjuan stepped up and proved he can be one of the top dawgs in the running back room. He ran for over 94 yards in his final five games of the season, including his final three where he rushed for 136, 135, and 112.
As for Davis, he transfers to Louisville from Missouri as a 4-star transfer. He ranked as a 4-star recruit out of high school, ranking No. 162 overall and No. 11 among running backs in the 2025 recruiting class. He rushed for 3,800 rushing yards and 58 touchdowns in his final two seasons in high school, and is expected to be a huge depth piece for Louisville this season.
So, this running back truly is one of the best in the country, and the ACC and the rest of the nation are being warned leading up to the season about this dominant running back room.
