The 2026 NFL and college football seasons are quickly approaching, as we are officially in the middle of July. With the offseason in full swing and the NFL preseason just about a month away, a lot of new rankings and polls are firing away at the moment.
When thinking about former Louisville football players in the NFL, Lamar Jackson is usually the first name that comes to mind. The former Cardinal has consistently been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL throughout his career and is about to enter his ninth season.
Recently, Colin Cowherd ranked his top ten quarterbacks in the NFL, and Baltimore Ravens and Louisville Cardinals fans quickly noticed one massive name was missing.
Colin Cowherd's NFL QB rankings will leave Louisville fans stunned
Jackson has been getting some major disrespect this offseason, and Cowherd’s recent rankings are the cherry on top. It is hard to name 10 quarterbacks better than the former Cardinal, and somehow Cowherd did.
The former MVP played in just 13 games this past season due to an injury, and now it appears some are forgetting how elite Jackson is. Cowherd’s list starts off with the Bills Josh Allen, followed by the Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes. Those two could be understandable as these three are usually the top three QBs every year.
However, Cowherd then, in order, lists Bears' Caleb Williams, Rams' Matthew Stafford, Chargers' Justin Herbert, Bengals' Joe Burrow, Seahawks' Sam Darnold, Lions' Jared Goff, Packers' Jordan Love, and rounds out his top 10 with Patriots' Drake Maye.

Jackson was named the 2023 MVP when he threw for 3,678 yards and 24 touchdowns while also rushing for 821 yards and five touchdowns. He then followed that season up with a historic year where he threw for 4,172 yards and 41 touchdowns while also rushing for 915 yards and four touchdowns.
He was robbed of the MVP trophy as Josh Allen secured his first MVP, despite Jackson being the first quarterback to ever throw for 4,000 yards and rush for 900-plus yards in a season, the first quarterback to earn 40-plus passing touchdowns and fewer than five interceptions in a season, and earned the No. 4 best passer rating in NFL history with 119.6
Some of the names listed above, Jackson is laughable, and it is just offseason nonsense at this point. Jackson doesn’t need any motivation, as he knows he is one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL and one of its most valuable players, but if he wanted to, this could be used as motivation and spark a massive 2026-27 season for the former Cardinal.
