Louisville basketball recently made another major splash, as the Cardinals added North Carolina transfer Seth Trimble. Earlier this summer, a Colorado judge granted seniors from the class of 2022 another year of eligibility under the “five-for-five” rule.
With this major change to college sports, the Cardinals' head coach made it clear he would keep his eyes open. The former ACC star became available after playing for the Washington Wizards this offseason, and the Cardinals are now expected to be one of the top teams not just in the ACC, but in college basketball.
CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein is known for releasing his own offseason power rankings, and after the Cardinals' major addition, Louisville climbed into the top 10.
Louisville basketball continues to turn heads this offseason
Earlier this offseason, Louisville was ranked as low as No. 17 in the college basketball insider rankings. The Cardinals ranked one spot behind Kentucky, which shocked Cardinals fans, since Louisville is ranked inside almost everyone else’s top 15.
Well, the Cardinals continue to impress analysts this offseason, including Rothstein, as they moved up not just inside his top 15 but now inside his top 10. Louisville is ranked No. 9 in these rankings, one spot ahead of the Texas Longhorns, whom they will face this upcoming season inside the KFC Yum! Center on Dec. 1.
The addition of Trimble is clearly a huge add for Kelsey, as the CBS basketball reporter has the Cardinals climbing up his rankings. It isn’t just Rothstein, as FanDuel also updated its 2027 National Title odds, and the Cardinals earned some recognition from the Vegas oddsmakers, as they now have the seventh-highest odds to win the National Title at +2200.
Rothstein included his projected starting five for the Cardinals and, unsurprisingly, with the addition of Trimble, the UNC transfer moved into the starting lineup at shooting guard, and the starting unit is rounded out with Jackson Shelstad, Karter Knox, Alvaro Folguieras, and Flory Bidunga. Adrian Wooley will now likely come off the bench, along with London Johnson, 4-star transfer De’Shayne Montgomery, 7-foot-5 transfer Gabe Dynes, 5-star 2026 recruit Obinna Ekezie, and 4-star 2026 recruit Boyuan Zhang.
Kelsey had an eye-popping offseason, and he just made it even better with the addition of Trimble. The 6-foot-3 shooting guard is a scrappy guard who can play physical defense and is coming off his best season with the Tar Heels. This past season, he earned All-ACC honorable mention after averaging 14.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 47 percent from the field.
