The Cardinals rebuilt almost their entire roster, as Pat Kelsey and Louisville basketball added six transfers from the portal and landed three commitments from the 2026 recruiting class. Louisville basketball is trending as a top-15 team in early offseason rankings, with one Fox Sports analyst ranking them as high as No. 5 overall.
A lot of the spotlight of course goes to Cardinals three big additions this offseason, Flory Bidunga, Jackson Shelstad and Karter Knox, but one key returner continues to get a lot of praise. Adrian Wooley is coming off his first year with Louisville, where he showed a lot of upside.
The Cardinals' new associate head coach, Sean Dixon, joined in on praising Wooley by stating the combo guard is emerging as a true leader and is poised to take a major leap this year.

Usually a lot of players go on to take that sophomore leap. Their freshman season has some growing pains, and the player has a lot to learn and develop in that first year. But then, in that second season, fans and others see that elite player leap in that sophomore season.
Well, Dixon just made it clear Wooley has been “tremendous” this offseason, and he believes the Cardinals guard is ready for a breakout season.
“I think AD has been tremendous,” Dixon stated about Wooley this offseason. “A lot of times in basketball you see the sophomore year jump, right? Freshman year to sophomore year, you make a big jump. Well, this is kind of his sophomore year in this program. It is his third year in college basketball, but it is his second year here at Louisville. And so, we anticipate him to make a huge jump and be a very productive player for us this year.”
Dixon isn’t the only one who said this about Wooley this offseason. The Field of 68’s Rob Dauster also stated he thinks Wooley is poised for a breakout season, as he explained to Jeff Goodman he wouldn’t be too surprised if Wooley led the Cardinals in scoring this season.
Wooley is likely going to be one of the Cardinals' five starters this upcoming season. He is coming off a year where he began to gel and flourish at the end of the season, scoring 15 in the last regular season game and hitting a nasty step back 3-pointer to beat Miami, and scoring 17 points in the second round on 70-percent shooting from the field in Louisville’s loss to Michigan State.
Everyone hopes Wooley takes that leap Dixon is talking about, and many believe he has the potential to do so. He was a 5-star transfer from Kennesaw State, after averaging 18.8 points while shooting 52 percent from the field and 42 percent from beyond the arc. He is a crafty guard who can create open looks for himself, whether attacking the rim or from 3-point range.
The time is his. He played behind Mikel Brown Jr. and Ryan Conwell this past season, and now he is going to be one of the stars in the backcourt. If Wooley can take that leap and emerge as a key scorer for the Cardinals, he could be a major x-factor for the Cardinals' Final Four dreams.
